BMW Motorrad names a brand icon

PUCHONG: TV personality Maznah Zolkifli's long-running passion for motorcycles has culminated with her appointment as the first brand icon for BMW Motorrad in its campaign to widen customer base.

The hobby which started in 1991 has led Maznah, 37, to promote motorcycling among women in Malaysia over the years. She is the president of the Kuala Lumpur Biker's Club.

Maznah’s appointment would introduce BMW motorcycles to a wider audience, BMW Motorrad manager Fazli Shukor said on Tuesday at the Chear Motorrad dealership here.

According to BMW Motorrad, its business in Malaysia has recorded positive growth year on year. In 2011, BMW Motorrad registered a record performance, delivering 300 motorcycles, a further 6% increase from the previous record of 281 motorcycles achieved in 2010.

It marked a new chapter last year when it introduced its first six cylinder 1600cc luxury touring bikes – the BMW 1600 GT and BMW 1600 GTL alongside its S 1000 RR superbike.

The motorcycle maker has also since introduced its first independent BMW Motorrad dealership – Chear Motorrad as well as made its first foray into the local motorsports scene via a partnership with Two Wheel Garage in the Malaysian Superseries.

Also present at the signing ceremony were BMW Group Malaysia corporate communications manager Sashi Ambi, Chear Motorrad managing director Chear Kin Keong and Chear Motorrad director Chear Swee Kwin.
